Ian: I have exceeded my objectives. My internship has enriched my intellectual and social qualities. I was sceptical at first about the European Social Forum, but it has truly been an amazing experience.
(…) I met my objectives to a great extent. I was able to make a great number of professional contacts, to participate in a kind of theatre that is truly “engagé” politically, and to adapt to French methods of theatre production...to some degree. Working in French theatres really revealed to me how much of a problem we have in the States with public arts funding, an issue that will haunt and motivate me for the rest of my life, I think.
(…) J’ai adoré mon stage, qui m’a obligé à mieux connaître la société française, et surtout la politique française, si j’avais envie de comprendre ce qui se passait autour de moi. Il m’a aussi donné l’occasion de travailler comme un vrai journaliste, un de mes rêves, pour lequel je leurs serais toujours redevable. J’ai aussi appris ce que c’était d’être militant. J’ai eu la très bonne fortune de les aider sur la marche des femmes, une expérience qui m’a marqué profondément. J’ai vu comment une petite organisation, composé de volontaires et d’assistants bénévoles, pouvait avoir une profonde influence sur le paysage politique et social de la France.

Milen : I had a wonderful experience interning at Confrontations Europe and am very pleased to have been actually able to apply what I’m learning in class, and to meet some of the people who work to make Europe a better, more informed and more democratic community.
Elisabeth: J’aime beaucoup que ce stage me donne le temps de lire, et je suis fière d’être capable d’écrire pour la revue et d’avoir vraiment l’impression d’aider l’association.
Javier: I have met my expectations totally. I never thought that working in the National Assembly could be so interesting. I got to work with some of the most important political figures of the party. It was a truly amazing experience!
(…) Je ne vous conseille pas de mettre à la délégation des Arts Plastiques, quelqu’un qui ne prend pas d’initiative. Mais si on est interessé, les opportunités n’ont pas de fin. J’ai bien profité de mon stage et je crois que mon bureau aussi.
Clarissa: I experienced the internship fully and learned as much or more than I expected. I loved my internship and the people I worked with – I’m sad to leave! Can I come back?
Daniel: Quand je suis arrivé à mon stage ils m’ont donné énormément de responsabilité, et parfois je me sentais désorienté. Mais c’est une expérience qui m’a obligé à parler plus, à devenir moins timide, à avoir plus confiance en moi, et qui m’a vraiment montré comment travailler d’une façon plus organisé et efficace.
(…) Je ne me contentais pas d’observer et c’était la clé pour avoir réussi à faire partie du Cyber CRIPS. Je suis tellement content, et compte continuer mon stage pendant quelques mois. Merci !!!
(…) M. Lamour m’explique toujours ce qu’il fait et pourquoi il le fait. Chaque instant devient un instant d’apprentissage. On se déplace souvent, pour visiter des écoles, passer par la mairie, installer un festival pour le soir même. Dans la voiture il me met au courant de ce qui se passe là où l’on va.
Janaki: Pro-democracy work is fascinating and never boring, and I liked the theoretical as well as the concrete side of the work.
(…) Mon stage se passe superbement, l’endroit est excellent, les gens très cool et le travail à faire agréable et qui invite à de nouvelles expériences et connaissances. Je suis très heureuse de faire mon stage à Médecins du Monde.
Barbara: I am very pleased with my internship. My goal was to gain confidence and improve my French.Thanks to my internship I have been able to do both. I have made some great friends at work. The museum staff has been very welcoming and willing to help me in any and all areas. In addition, I have had the opportunity to learn about the functioning of a museum. Working in a museum has helped me to realize that I would like to pursue work in the cultural sector when I return to the US.
(…) Avec toute l’observation que j’ai fait, pas seulement au bureau, mais aussi aux débats, aux conférences, aux procès, je sens que la quantité de choses que j’ai appris est énorme. Et je pense que mon chef le voit aussi et donc il m’a donné beaucoup plus de responsabilité qu’avant. Finalement je crois que j’ai appris tant de choses des gens avec qui je travaille. Ils sont tous très sympas et surtout très, très patients avec moi. Quand j’ai des questions, même des questions très bêtes, ils n’hésitent pas à m’aider.
Katherine: I feel I gained the most experience and knowledge possible through my internship at Grasset! All in all my three months at Grasset were very enriching. I was proud to be part of “operations” of the publishing house and I know that I will stay in contact with my supervisor in the future. Thank you IFE!
(…) Overall this internship was a very positive experience ( as was writing the research paper)! I think I got more out of it than I ever could have out of a class. The people I worked with are wonderful and I am definitely going to miss them! Thank you IFE for such a successful semester!

TP : J’ai trouvé cette partie des cours extrèmement utile pour comprendre la vie française.
Tammy: J’ai été tellement impressionné par la qualité des professeurs d’IFE. Ils sont parmi les meileurs que j’ai jamais eu. J’aime beaucoup l’intensité de ces premières semaines , j’ai appris tant de choses qui ont facilité ma compréhension de la société française.
(...) Très très utile. Des infos essentielles pour comprendre la société française.
(...) Je suis très contente avec la qualité des cours à IFE. Je l’appelle « tout ce qu’il faut savoir sur la France mais que tu avais trop honte de demander ». Important et essentiel pour nous en tant que résidants et stagiaires en France. Un peu long mais super quand même. Merci !
(...) Je sens que j’ai appris beaucoup pendant ces cours. Les profs étaient très enthousiastes et excellents.

(...) J’ai beaucoup appris pendant ce module et les profs ont montré un intérêt incroyable pas seuleument pour la matière à apprendre, mais aussi pour nous. Les profs sont 100% connaisseurs de la matière en question.

Meghan : I have long been thinking about my experience with IFE and this letter is long overdue. Before I mention my future plans and current projects, I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a wonderful and thoughtful group of people. I think you were more than generous and anderstanding throughout the semester I Spend in Paris and I only wish that I had been equally well-mannered.

Katherine: I was truly worried about how things would turn out, but IFE worked hard for me and the my co-workers were so nice. I ended up having a wonderful experience, thanks to you!
Larry : IFE was a program that not only afforded me the experience of a lifetime but also gave me invaluable insight to the French legal/political system. I would unquestionably recommend this program to students seeking to make the most of their study abroad experience.
Max: Depuis juin passé (où j’ai reçu mon diplôme de Carleton double spécialisation en français et en religion « distinction » dans les deux, grace en grande partie, à mon expérience à Paris!) j’habite à Lafayette, LA, le centre du monde cajun ! Il ne faut pas rigoler mais, on m’a embauché comme prof de français. Un yankee enseignant le français aux cajuns, c’est comme le début d’une mauvaise blague.
Sung: After I finished IFE, CRIPS Ile de France : This past summer was spend in Namibia and Zambia interning for ONG called Africare, where I contribued to projects on HIV/AIDS, food security and sanitation. This was an AMAZING expérience ; I wish I could have stayed on for a year ! (Coincidentally, I was able to use French a few times, while in refugee camps with Congolese residents.) Anyhow, I had to come back and start medical school, though, andd that’s where I’ve been since late August !
Stephanie: I have just started a PhD programme at the London School of Economics here in London, at the International History departement. My research examines the relationship between the evolution of the career of Maurice Papon and that of policies of the French government during the 4th and early 5th Republic.It is really exciting stuff, encompassing his time in Morocco, Algeria, and at the Paris prefecture. I am back reading French all time, writing letters to people to request interviews, and preparing to come over and dig around in the archives nationales in Paris, and shortly thereafter those of the d’outres mer (DOM) in Aix-en-Provence. Hence the reason that I will be coming to Paris next month, and hopefully see you.
